Is Mowing Really Considered Landscaping?

Posted on April 3, 2021

Landscaping is the process of transforming a space or site into one that enhances the quality of life and is aesthetically pleasing. The landscape around your home says a lot about you and how you see the world. One of the most important aspects of landscaping is mowing. A well designed lawn maintains a good eye appeal and creates a relaxed atmosphere. Here are some landscaping design tips that explain the importance of properly mowing your lawn.

It’s not hard to understand why you might wonder, is mowing really considered landscaping? There are two factors to consider when mowing your lawn. The first is how much grass you have. If you have too little grass then it can be difficult to keep clean. An automatic lawn mower is a great way to make sure you don’t have too much grass on your yard.

Another factor to consider when mowing your lawn is how thick it is. Grass types like alfalfa, rye and clover will grow thicker than grasses such as rye and bluegrass. This is because these grasses don’t require the same maintenance as other grasses. You can tell how thick your lawn is by looking at the back side of the grass. If you can see quite a bit of grass on the back side then it is more than likely that it is past its growing stage. It’s recommended that you mow your lawn at least once a week but if you want to go a step further then every other day is okay.

A gas lawn mower or electric lawn mower is the best way to go when it comes to lawn mowing. Both machines cut your lawn evenly which ensures a beautiful look. A gas or electric mower will require you to cut around your lawn so it’s recommended that you either mow in the same direction or change directions every so often to ensure that the grass grows in an even fashion. Some gas and electric mowers will have an automatic mode which allows you to let the machine do all the work.

A commercial grass cutter or turf cutter is better suited for larger areas. These machines come with an attachment for snowplowing and they will cut your lawn into at least one-half inch pieces. The benefit of using turf cutters is that they don’t require much maintenance. They are however more expensive than gas or electric mowers. If you have a large lawn, you should consider buying both a gas and an electric mower to cut it properly.

When landscaping your lawn you need to have a plan. If you don’t mow correctly you will be damaging the grass and possibly the shrubs. To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you hire a professional landscaping company to give you an estimate before starting any major project like mowing. They know what they are doing and will do the job professionally without causing too much damage.
