Tips On Doing Your Indoor Gardening

Posted on October 31, 2021

Indoor gardens are not just for summer flowers any longer. In fact, indoor gardening has become increasingly popular during the warmer months of the year. I encourage you to check out indoor gardening books at your local library or check out my website to find great indoor gardening ideas for fall and winter blooms. I hope you enjoy the season!

This article is about indoor gardening, not indoor tower plants. Some people call indoor gardening something else like indoor gardening system or indoor plant growing. Regardless of the name, there is a common theme that dominates indoor gardening: use of space and plant selection for growing plants in containers. The most important element of indoor gardening is soil preparation and plant selection.

Use of space is an important part of indoor gardening. You don’t want to waste valuable floor space, but you also don’t want to crowd the other rooms in your home. One way to ensure you maximize your floor space is to grow taller plants, such as herbs and vegetables, on the taller pots in your vertical gardens.

Plant Selection: Choosing the right plants to grow in your indoor garden is crucial for optimal growth. Your indoor garden will provide shade and moisture for the seedlings as well as ventilation for the pots. You can grow everything from onions, bell pepper, parsley, oregano, and tomatoes in small containers. The best pots for growing seedlings are wider in shape and deeper in the bass than the pots you usually use for indoor gardening. Make sure the pots you choose have good drainage, a sturdy lid, and a smooth surface to prevent splintering.

Watering: There are many ways to water your indoor garden, but if you are going with a vertical garden, then it is easiest to have a hanging water hose that is attached to the wall. This is a much easier solution than having to run a long hose across the entire length of the room. Many vertical garden systems even have automatic watering systems that are controlled by an easy-to-use remote control. Many indoor gardeners prefer to water by hand using a spray bottle or watering can. If your garden tends to get a lot of sun, then it might be best to water with a sprinkler system that can be controlled by a timer.

Light Source: Another important part of indoor gardening is selecting the proper light source. Plants cannot grow without the proper amount of sunlight, so make sure your grow lights are not too close to the plants or the heat will cause too much stress for the roots. Indoor tower gardens require about 8 hours of direct sunlight most days, with a little bit of shade during the summer months. Be sure to place your timer near the plants, so it is easy to set the time that the timer begins running and ends when the sun stops shining. Consider planting your seedlings about one to two feet away from the light source to allow enough light to reach the plants.

Planting Planters: Once your indoor garden is established, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind when selecting pots and planters for your garden. First, if you plan on using trellises, make sure your pots are sturdy and large enough for your trellis to be able to support itself. Second, choose a potting soil that has plenty of nutrients in it so your plants have everything they need to grow. The soil should also drain well, especially if you are using soil-based planters. Lastly, consider pruning your plants back to a more open layout so the amount of space you have in your garden will be more open and less cramped.

Indoor gardening can be a fun pastime that provide benefits for you and your family, but it does take work. If you want the best tower gardens and pots that you can find, take some time and think about what all your options are. You may be surprised at how many different kinds of gardening styles there are and how many indoor gardening ideas you can incorporate into your home. Once you get started, you will quickly see how useful gardening can be in any size home and the amount of floor space you can save. Gardening is relaxing and refreshing, and it can also provide a great number of benefits to your family.
