What Is The Five Basic Landscape Design Principles?

Posted on April 3, 2021

What are the five basic landscaping design principles? Landscaping design is very important because landscaping determines how the entire landscape looks like and how well it blends with the surroundings. Landscaping design focuses on different components such as plants, building materials, landscape ideas and much more. A good landscape designer has to know a lot of things in order to accomplish his project successfully.

Before beginning a landscaping design project, an idea of what type of landscape is desired should be determined. The landscape ideas can be put into various categories and each of these categories should be analyzed carefully. This includes the types of flowers that will be grown, the kind of trees and shrubs that should be planted, where the location of water and electricity supply should be situated etc. All these components have to be included in the landscaping design.

Landscaping design starts with an analysis of the area that is to be landscaped. This includes determining the size of the area that is available and the space that can be used for landscaping. The size of the area can be estimated by taking the floor area of the house and dividing it by the number of rooms in the house. The area is also a factor that has to be taken into account while planning the landscape. This includes calculation of the distance between the house and the nearest structure and also the setback distance from the structure towards the house. All these factors have to be considered while designing a landscaping.

Landscaping design also incorporates the principles of unity, contrast. Unity refers to the aspect of a design, which brings together all the elements of the landscaping in a harmonious way. Contrast is used here by painting the landscaping in contrasting colors so as to bring together the various elements of the landscape in one picture. Contrast is also used to bring out the color of the objects, which are placed in the landscaping.

One may wonder what is the significance of unity and contrast. The answer to this question is very simple, as both these aspects are used by almost all the designers to design a good landscaping. Unity refers to the aspect of a design, which brings together all the elements of the landscaping in a harmonious way. On the other hand contrast is used here by painting the landscaping in contrasting colors so as to bring together the various elements of the landscape in one picture.

The above mentioned are only some of the many principles of basic landscaping design. These principles can be considered as the fundamentals of landscape architecture. By adopting such principles you will be able to design a beautiful landscaping for your home.
