Home Depot is one of my favorite places to buy supplies. Their selection is great, their prices are reasonable, and they have some of the best deals in town. The only problem I have ever had there is the Home Depot landscape department. Their customer service sucks! I always end up waiting on hold for what seems like an eternity, and when I do finally talk to someone they don’t really listen.
There was one plant that I remember. It was a poinsettia that looked like it was going to fall off the tree, so I bought it anyway. I thought it would be cute to get a rewards receipt for $8.00. Instead I got a home depot return policy, and I never paid for it.
I went to Home Depot one Saturday morning and was confused. There were several people behind the counter that made me feel like I should have been more careful with my purchase. One of the employees gave me the run around, and I ended up having to go all the way to the back of the store to get a refund. When I told the manager I didn’t need a refund he said “that’s fine with us” then went on his computer. Lesson learned… stay away from Home Depot when you want a refund!
All of these issues were frustrating enough, but I decided to come back another day and check out the Home Depot website. Sure enough there was an entire section devoted to Home Depot returns, with a place for you to enter your order number and make your payment. The website also had a ton of helpful information about Home Depots policies, and a ton of links. The only problem was the website was in French. I spent several minutes trying to figure out how to navigate around the policies, then I just gave up.
I knew I had made a mistake by purchasing the wrong Home Depot plant, so I came right back to the store and asked them if they had a brochure or flier that explained their return policy. They did, and I realized that I had bought the wrong plants! It was too late because by then it was raining. I contacted the customer service desk and explained my mistake, they informed me that they would make sure to send the correct plants and the rest is history.
So what does this all mean? Does your Home Depot landscape store policy cover returns on Home Depot rental trucks and rebate sales? Well, the short answer is no. Your Home Depot does not cover any returns on Home Depot rental trucks and rebate sales, they only cover the actual cost of the flowers, shrubs, or trees you ordered in the first place.
If you have purchased flowers, shrubs, or trees from your local Home Depot store during the past year, and you are not satisfied with the quality of these items, you can contact customer service and ask if they have a brochure or return policy for these items. The representative will be glad to help you, and tell you if your current landscaping plan is acceptable. If your current plan is not acceptable, they will try to work something out with you, which usually ends up working out well. If your current landscaping plan is unacceptable, you should probably call in a professional landscaping company to get the job done right.
I would still recommend getting your flowers, shrubs, or trees through Home Depot, even if you do not have a Home Depot policy that covers the return of product. I would also recommend asking for catalogs and pictures of your order so you can find out what you have to choose from before making a decision. You always want to buy plants that are in good conditions, and are going to survive the winter. This will save you money in the long run, as it will save you the time and expense of constantly replacing dead plants. When it comes to Home Depot, their reputation is excellent. If you have questions, you can easily speak to the customer service department on the phone or visit the website at home depot.
