What Are the 7 Principles of Landscape Design?

Posted on April 27, 2021

What are the 7 principles of landscape design? This is a very good question, one that I get asked a lot. Landscaping, just like any other subject, there are several principles that you have to learn and understand in order to create beautiful landscapes. With these principles in mind, you will be able to come up with wonderful landscaping ideas without much trouble at all.

The first principle is the harmony principle. This principle states that landscaping should be able to create a pleasant and relaxing environment. If you want your landscaping idea to work well, you need to make sure that it can relax the eye as well as the soul. When a person sees beautiful scenery, he or she is usually more relaxed, thus making his or her mood better.

Another important aspect of landscaping design is color arrangement. Colors play an important role in creating an appealing landscape. You need to choose colors that can best represent your landscaping idea. When you do this, you not only attract the attention of your viewer, but you are also able to communicate a message about your personality to the people who look at your landscaping.

Another principle is the visual language principle. This principle states that the size and shape of a landscaping should relate to its content. When a landscaping design has a meaningful shape and size, it will easily impress its viewers. It will then create a strong visual impact on people who look at it. When you are creating your landscaping, it is important to keep the size and shape of the landscaping consistent.

The third principle is the visual stream principle. This principle basically states that an aesthetically pleasing visual language is important for a landscaping. This stream essentially refers to how all the colors you use in your landscaping should come together and make an attractive image. If you use too many colors that clash with each other, or too many shapes that do not match each other, your landscaping will not achieve its purpose.

These are just some of the principles of landscape design. Just remember that the principles you apply in your landscaping should relate to your personality as a designer. These principles should be an extension of who you are as a person. As such, these principles should not be something you force on your landscape. Rather, they should be a product of your subconscious and conscious decisions.
